Dear friends take a minute to read this, most of you know Pratoni as the beautiful place on the vulcan crater south of Rome, some of you have very good memories of medals and podiums, some of you some amazing memories from childhood. Pratoni as it is known, CEF its real name, has been host to 2 European Championships as well International competitions every year. We know how sad it is to loose a good event for our sport, let alone a great place like Pratoni that is a gem for the International circuit and a piece of heritage for our sport. Pratoni is closed and abandoned, a group of brave people are doing all they can to show the Italian Olympic Committee that Pratoni is worth saving, restoring to its glory and given back to the Eventing community! CEF PRATONI del VIVARO: “A jewel that is the envy of the world risks disappearance”
300 riders of all ages came from all over Italy bringing with them the solidarity of their colleagues worldwide. Because the whole equestrian world in all its disciplines cares about the Centro Equestre Federale of Pratoni del Vivaro near Rome; it cares and it envies the Italians because in all Europe there is no better place to gallop, jump and train. That is why there were so many people yesterday at the Pratoni Day organized by the almost 2000 supporters, riders, athletes, trainers, teachers and breeders of the facebook group CEF IN ROVINA (CEF in ruins). Many and ready to get to work not just to prepare a list of priorities, decide on the work necessary for the restoration, security and protection of the Centre, but also to help the CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) find the funds to re-open the CEF.
Among others, Albino Garbari, Eventing course designer Olympic Games Athens 2004, World Games Rome 98, Europeans Rome 95; Federico Roman, ex federation rider, III level trainer with master in eventing, eventing gold medal Moscow Olympics 80, Olympic rider Montreal 76 and Barcelona 92. Also Francesco Girardi ex federation rider, former national first team trainer, Olympic rider Seoul 88 and Barcelona 92, III level trainer with master in eventing; Carlo Bolaffio, ex federation rider, former official vet for the national junior, pony, young rider and senior teams; Argenta Campello, III level trainer with master in eventing, daughter of Count Ranieri di Campello, former President of the FISE, who bought the land and set up the CEF in 1957; Fabio Fani Ciotti, III level instructor, ex federation rider, World Games Rome 98, medal Europeans Pau 2001, Europeans Punchestown 2003; Massimo Arcioni, professional driver, Italian champion 2000, World Games Rome 2006, Poland 2008; Deodato Cianfanelli III level instructor, national team trainer Paralympics London 2012, Amos Cisi, former FISE counselor, Francesco Finocchiaro, course designer Eventing Pony Europeans Arezzo 2013…just to mention some names.
Also many young future eventing stars and others….together with mayors and personalities of the area (Pasquale Boccia of Rocca di Papa, Emilio Cianfanelli of Ariccia, the president of the Comunità Montana Castelli Romani e Prenestini).
Many signatures were collected to ask Giovanni Malagò, President of the Coni, who was invited to the event but was unable to participate because convalescent, to restore the CEF to its former glory and not to leave one more minute to the spreading deterioration. Urgent intervention is necessary. It is what Italian and also European athletes are asking. Above all good sense and the safeguarding of the common interest and its immense value demand it.
